Intergenerational and colonial trauma have specific fingerprints on all our experiences. We must learn to recognize how these experiences have shaped our worldview and our ability to feel safe in the world we have been given. Our emancipation comes when we recognize that many of our childhood experiences stem from a fear of the world our loved ones knew. Every generation does it better. In this respect, we realize the mistakes were made out of love and protection, not apathy or hatred. Through this realization, we get to disrupt this cycle, and we can be free.
